Franzensfeste
250,000 m³ of granite, 200,000 m² of terrain, 75 m height difference - the bomb-proof Franzensfeste was one of the most reliable fortresses in the Alps in 1838 when it was built. It has been open to the public since 2005 and houses not only the permanent exhibition "The Cathedral in the Desert - the History of Fortezza" but also changing art exhibitions. www.festung-franzensfeste.it
Messner Mountain Museums
Sechs Museen mit sechs verschiedenen Ausstellungen hat der Bergsteiger Reinhold Messner den Bergen gewidmet – Corones, Ripa, Dolomites, Firmian, Juval und Ortles. Im Corones geht es um die Geschichte des traditionellen Alpinismus. Das Gebäude selbst ist dabei mindestens genauso interessant wie die darin befindliche Ausstellung – es liegt 2.275 m hoch auf dem Kronplatz und wurde von der Stararchitektin Zaha Hadid entworfen. Das von Frida aus noch leichter zu erreichende Ripa auf Schloss Bruneck, dem einstigen Sommersitz der Fürstbischöfe, beherbergt die Dauerausstellung "Das Erbe der Berge" und zeigt religiöse und kulturelle Artefakte von Bergvölkern aus aller Welt. www.messner-mountain-museum.it
Folklore Museum Dietenheim
The South Tyrolean Museum of Folklore is socio-historically oriented and shows the different ways of living, living and working of the rural population of yesteryear - from the landed aristocracy over the self-sufficient farmers up to the craftsman and day laborer. The Ansitz Mair am Hof and the associated farm buildings accommodate the extensive ethnographic collection. On the three-hectare open-air grounds, original farmhouses, workshops and cottage gardens tell of everyday life in earlier centuries.
